Ten things that help me stay (mostly) sane ... Adulting 101 by yours truly 🙆🏻♀️
I’m twenty five and to all my twenty-something friends, be kinder with yourself. We have enough to worry about — deadlines, work stress, complicated dating lives, politics, changing climate, a pandemic… & more. Be nicer with yourself
🌼🌼🌼
If you’re struggling to adult fine, here are some ways I keep myself (mostly) sane:
Learn the absolute
basics of cooking
(!!!): Spend some time planning a couple meals a week. Start slow and experiment. Look at cooking as an art, or an exact science — whichever you enjoy more, but, feed yourself good food. I solve more than half my stresses with just a simple, easy, homecooked meal.
🥗Always have
fresh fruits
in your fridge: This is the easiest way to have some extra, natural health supplements. A banana, an apple, a peach, an orange — pick your favorite! 🍎🍓🍐🍌🍉
Sleep:
There is no point staying up past 3 a.m. if your brain is struggling to read and comprehend something very basic. Get some sleep. You might make the deadline, but you’ll likely do poorly. Rest, and get to it in a bit. Try power naps!
😴Ask for help:
We’re all in this together. We’re all in the same boat, seriously. You’re not especially behind even if it might seem like it. Seek out help, normalize asking for help.
🫂Make a
self-love playlist:
Include songs of rage, songs of love, comforting songs, and songs that might conventionally not make sense but have memories attached with them for you. It’s your playlist, make it yours!
🎵Budget
yourself: I’ve found the easiest way for me to stay in a budget is to set weekly spending limits, not counting in emergencies, of course.
💸Try
little
games
for yourself: This is a sensible suggestion, I promise. Challenge yourself in little ways, like, this week, I’ve got to make four meals at home. This week, I’ve got to not spend more than xyz amount, and so forth. It helps keep me motivated.💪🏻
Try some
basic stretching/Yoga
before going to bed: It takes just about ~15 minutes, relaxes your body and your sleep will 100% be better1.
Here’s a video I really like.
🧘🏻♀️
Keep
learning new things:
No matter how busy life gets — try to read one new thing and/or learn one new skill every week.
🤔Photograph your mundane moments:
The pandemic has made me realize the worth of looking back at memories. You don’t know it in the moment, but you are making memories, getting better, growing and evolving! Gift your future self some tangible memories to look back at.

Cool things
On to other cool stuff! I learned about Google’s Journalist Studio this week! It has some great free tools (to transcribe audio, find datasets and more!)
Another fun thing I read this week:
What will it be like when we go back to the office?
Not that we’re eager to go back to offices (or, some of us are), but we’re all eager for the pandemic to get done. Here’s a Reuters piece on how we’ll navigate offices when we do return. Pssst: It has some really fun interactives inside!
✨Personal updates
✨
It’s been an overwhelming few weeks and perhaps that’s why the theme of this edition is what it is. Take care of yourselves! Check in with your friends and just, be gentler with yourself 💕 And, as always, stay tuned for more!
Based on very scientific data from observing my own sleep cycle.
