A minor rant on NYC apartment hunting
This one's a pretty personal one. A lot happened this past week β It was my last day at a job, I traveled to Bangalore to meet some friends and say some byes, and I came pretty close [π©] to finding a home in NYC. Which, is what this rant is. I hope this helps save you some trouble should you ever find yourself looking for housing overseas, specifically in New York.
In the last two weeks, I've applied to a couple of apartments and it cost $20 each time. I lost four of them β for trivial reasons, and came really close to applying for another three.
When you're looking for apartments overseas, list down your budget and preferences β location, size, amenities. Start your search early, but not too early. Familiarise yourself with the process (what's the application fee, timeline of approval, background and credit check process, application requirements). Find your roommates β if needed, of course. Make sure your roommatesβ and your preferences align and commit to looking for places together.
Here's another tip: If you're moving overseas, it will be overwhelming. You will have doubts and insecurities, but the best thing you can do for yourself is β Be brave and decisive and not let your fears get to you.
If you're in the same boat and want to chat over Zoom-coffee, I'd love to hear from you!

PERSONAL UPDATE
I'll be traveling the next two weeks too β to say some more byes, share some more hugs, do some paperwork and then [π€π»] fly to NYC! I don't anticipate delays in sending this out, but expect shorter updates for the next two issues. If all goes well, I'll be at Columbia by August 16th!
As always, stay tuned for more! π
